he
PAL Golf Program is open to all of the PAL Centers and their members
across the city. No child will pay any fees for any of the programs
that he or she participates in with PAL.
All Equipment including shirts, hats, balls, clubs, etc. will be provided
by PAL free of charge. In addition, during many of the events refreshments
will be provided.
The Pal Golf Program is divided into three phases:
Introduction, Professional Instruction, Golf Camp.
Phase 1 - Introduction
Starting in May and running for eight weeks until the end of June
we will be having a regionalized kickoff introductory program involving
all PAL Centers.
Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00pm - 8:00pm we will
be working with 4 centers with about 40 kids participating in each
session introducing them into the various aspects of the game of
golf.
This program will be conducted at the Burholme Driving Range and
Miniature Golf Course and is intended to introduce children to the
game of golf and hopefully identify those kids who would like to
continue on with the second phase of our program.
During this program the total number of children exposed to the
game of golf should be approximately 300.
Phase II - Professional Instruction:
A Two Part Program
Starting at the end of June (once school is out) and running until
mid August we will be taking players that were identified as having
an interest in golf (from phase one) but still need work on their
game to Island Green Golf Course to participate in the "Kids
on the Hill" program.
This phase will focus on the fundamentals of Golf. Areas that we will
be working on will be Chipping, Putting, Driving, Long and Short Irons
as well as Golf etiquette. Instruction will be provided by several
area Golf Professionals. We anticipate involving approximately 75
kids per day (3 days per week). Time for this phase will be 12:00pm-4:00pm
During the Kids on the Hill program, several of our youngsters
(with somewhat more knowledge and ability) will have the opportunity
to play a round of Golf on several area courses (courses to be announced).
We anticipate involving 3 groups of 4 each time we take the kids
on the course.
Phase III - Golf Camp
During the month of August we will be having an introduction-to-golf
camp a the Juniata Golf Course with approximately 125 golfers participating.
This camp will run for the entire week.
During the week we will be instructing the children on various aspects
of the game of golf. Additionally, we will be having guest instructors
from the PGA along with members of the PAL Staff providing instruction
to those participating. The camp will culminate with a team scramble
tournament and awards ceremony on the last day at camp.
