PAL Evolutionary
Art- Dance Program
hat better way to express who you are than through dance at PAL? There
is no wrong way to dance and whatever you don't know, by the end of
our dance session, you will! Thank you so much for your interest in
the Police Athletic League's first Dance Program- Evolutionary Art.
The Evolutionary Art-Dance Program has been running since 2002 and
is sponsored by ACE INA. Under the direction of PAL's Commanding Officer,
Lieutenant Susan Slawson, and ACE INA, the idea for a dance class
at PAL has been brought to life. The
Police Memorial PAL Center is the pilot center for dance; it is
located on 4253 Frankford Avenue (Frankford & Ruan Street).
Police Officer Marcus Allen is the director of this PAL center,
he is available for registration from 2p.m. until 9p.m. The Evolutionary
Art-Dance Program is open to girls and boys, ages 7 to 18 years
of age. The classes this semester are on Thursday: 4:30 to 5:30
p.m. for ages 7-12 and 5:45 to 7:30p.m. for ages 13 to 18. The program
runs from September to May. If your child plans to participate,
please make sure they arrive for dance class 10 minutes early so
we can start promptly.
Lia V. Key and Patricia L. Lewis, two professionally trained instructors,
teach the program. The instructors have over 16 years of experience
and currently take dance classes to stay abreast on the techniques,
style and concept of dance for the classes they teach at PAL.
The Evolutionary Art-Dance Program is educational and recreational,
builds self-esteem and is expressive in form. The PAL youth who
participate learn why dance is still one of arts biggest ways to
express themselves. The program has been designed to teach the art
of dance, dance styles, dance techniques and dance as a way of communication
without saying a word!
